Alberta Company Acquires World Health Edmonton

CALGARY, ALBERTA, CANADA - The owners of World Health Calgary, Spa Lady (Edmonton and Calgary) and Bankers Hall Club have completed a transaction to acquire the assets of World Health Edmonton, Fresh Fit Foods and Tru Ride Cycle Studio. The alignment between the companies brings 24 Alberta fitness clubs under one ownership group. First Large Scale Expanded Access Program in ALS Announced

CAMBRIDGE, MA - Biohaven Pharmaceuticals announced the initiation of an Expanded Access Program (EAP) in ALS for their orally dissolving tablet of riluzole. This program is thought to be the first EAP approved by the FDA in ALS which aims to offer broad access to an experimental medication outside of a traditional clinical trial, while the company prepares to submit an application for full marketing approval to the FDA later this year. Planet Fitness, Inc. Announces First Quarter 2018 Results

HAMPTON, N.H. - Planet Fitness, Inc. (NYSE: PLNT) reported financial results for its first quarter ended March 31, 2018: Total revenue increased from the prior year period by 33.2% to $121.3 million. System-wide same stores sales increased 11.1%. Net income attributable to Planet Fitness, Inc. was $19.9 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, compared to net income attributable to Planet Fitness, Inc. of $8.8 million, or $0.14 per diluted share in the prior year period. Net income was $23.5 million, compared to net income of $17.9 million in the prior year period. Adjusted net income increased 42.3% to $26.2 million, or $0.27 per diluted share, compared to $18.4 million, or $0.19 per diluted share in the prior year period. Adjusted EBITDA increased 15.4% to $48.8 million from $42.3 million in the prior year period. 47 new Planet Fitness franchise stores were opened during the period, bringing system-wide total stores to 1,565 as of March 31, 2018.
