In April, a CEO Search Committee was formed. Past ACSM President Walt Thompson, Ph.D., FACSM, is serving as Chair of the committee. One of the first responsibilities the committee undertook was identifying an external executive search firm. The committee contacted multiple firms, interviewed the top two candidates and, ultimately, selected Korn Ferry, a nationally known firm with expertise in the health care, life sciences, nonprofit and associations sectors. First-Time ACSM Certification Exam Pass Rates Reach Historic Levels

American College of Sports MedicineINDIANAPOLIS, IN - In 2017, ACSM Certification completed its regularly scheduled job task analysis (JTA) study and update of the ACSM Certified Personal Trainer (ACSM-CPT) and ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP) certification exams. The net result of these efforts is that pass rates have jumped dramatically and are at historically high levels for the ACSM-CPT and ACSM-EP certification exams. Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Bill Signed into Law

American College of Sports MedicineINDIANAPOLIS, IN - President Donald Trump has signed into law HR 302/S. 808, which includes the Sports Medicine Licensure Clarity Act that now paves the way for sports medicine practitioners to work across state lines with liability protections. The new law extends the liability insurance coverage of a state-licensed medical professional while on travel to another state when the professional provides medical services to an athlete, athletic team or team staff member. Previously, clinicians that traveled with teams across state lines could have faced allegations that they were practicing medicine without malpractice protection. New U.S. Report Card Reveals Near-Failing Grade for Physical Activity in Children, Youth

American College of Sports MedicineWASHINGTON, D.C. - The National Physical Activity Plan Alliance (NPAPA) released its 2018 United States Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Youth. This is the third comprehensive assessment of physical activity in U.S. children and youth, updating the first report card released in 2014 and the second released in 2016. While the overall physical activity grade for children and youth remained low at D-, the 2018 report card revealed positive signs, especially related to opportunities and infrastructure that supports physical activity in children and youth.
