NEW YORK, N.Y. – Technogym, a leading company supplying products, services and solutions in wellness and fitness, is proud to announce the final results of the 2015 global Let’s Move for a Better World challenge, the first worldwide wellness challenge to fight childhood obesity, by engaging fitness facilities and communities. The 2015 global challenge achieved a milestone of over 315 million total MOVEs worldwide, effectively tripling last year’s results of over 100 million MOVEs. The results equate to over 141 million calories burned and 45,140 pounds lost! A total of 356 facilities and 79,832 participants moved for the Challenge worldwide.

“We are overjoyed at this year’s results, having tripled last year’s amount of MOVEs from 100 million to over 315 million,” said Nerio Alessandri, President and Founder of Technogym. “Through the Let’s Move for a Better World Challenge, we gave our customers the tools, the technology, and the significant opportunity to fight childhood obesity in their local communities. They are the fuel that have driven this challenge and without their passion and motivation, this accomplishment would never have happened.”

The winning fitness facility in each country receives Technogym’s Easy Line equipment to donate to a local school of its choice, helping increase physical activity and combatting obesity amongst children. The second place facility will receive a $1,000 donation to a health related charity of its choice in addition to two pieces of Technogym’s Excite+ equipment for their facility. The third place recipient will receive a $1,000 donation to a health related charity of its choice and one piece of Technogym’s Excite+ equipment for the facility.

The United States, with a total of 36 fitness centers and 5,507 participants collected over 20 million MOVEs, coming in at 6th place in the world rankings.

With an outstanding achievement of 4,503,659 total MOVEs, and over 800 participants, the first place winner in the United States is the Hancock Wellness Center in Greenfield, Indiana. In order to spread awareness of the challenge, the Hancock Wellness Center actively took to social media to promote the community’s continued support. The Hancock Wellness Center also installed a penny drive on-site in order to have the local residents, be included in the decision of where the equipment should be donated. Together, the Hancock Wellness Facility and community, chose the Eastern Hancock Schools, as the recipient of Technogym’s Easy Line Equipment.

“As a certified medical fitness center, part of our mission is to improve the health of our community. This program facilitated additional involvement amongst local businesses, organizations, and individuals within our facility. Our staff did a wonderful job engaging everyone in the challenge as well as keeping them motivated,” said David Flench, Director, Hancock Wellness Center. “Winning top honors in the U.S. and having the opportunity to donate Technogym equipment to the Eastern Hancock Schools will have a significant impact on childhood obesity. We are already looking forward to participating again next year.”

In second place is the Key Health Institute from Edmond, Oklahoma, that was the winning facility in 2014. The facility collectively accumulated over 3,000,005 total MOVEs, and has chosen the Sunset Therapeutic Riding Center as their charity of choice.

The third place winner is Key Fitness located in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. The facility attained 2,728,094 MOVEs, and has chosen the Roanoke Valley Community Health Initiative as their charity of choice.

Now in its second year, Technogym’s global Let’s Move for a Better World challenge underscores the important grassroots role that fitness facilities can take to impact public health and wellness in their local communities and encourage people of all ages to improve their health. Technogym and hundreds of partner fitness facilities worldwide took a major step towards the promotion of physical literacy globally by challenging their members to donate MOVEs (Technogym’s metric of measuring physical movement via the first and only open platform mywellness cloud and the Challenge App) to the cause from March 2-22, 2015.
