COLUMBIA, MD – Columbia Association (CA) has been nominated for the United States Tennis Association’s (USTA) “Member Organization of the Year” award. This is CA’s first time being nominated by the USTA’s Mid-Atlantic Section, which includes Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and part of West Virginia.

The winning organization will be chosen from 17 sections nationwide and recognized in March 2016 at the USTA’s annual meeting and conference. According to the USTA, the award is given to the organization that best exemplifies service to the community, service to its members through junior and adult programs and service to the game of tennis.

“Being nominated is an honor and a great accomplishment for CA’s entire tennis staff, including our team of 16 very experienced tennis professionals,” said Anish Manrai, tennis general manager for Columbia Association. “Columbia Association has responded to feedback from our very passionate tennis community by expanding our offerings well beyond the ability to play on 33 courts at four tennis clubs. Over the past year, CA has brought new and innovative programming, initiatives and events that have been enjoyed by players ranging from 4 years old to 90 who live, breath, eat and sleep tennis and were looking to be engaged even further.”

Those offerings include the Junior Development and Competition Tennis Program; junior team tennis; monthly 10-and-under play days and weekly competitive match play; an adult instruction and drill program for different skills levels; a serve, rally and play program for adult beginners; year-round leagues for various adult age groups; sanctioned junior and adult tournaments; daytime programming specifically for seniors; workshops, coaching and private lessons; and much more.

Columbia Association also has introduced cardio tennis and Pickleball and plans to offer TRX/cardio tennis and a customized preschool tennis program. CA’s courts have hosted college competitions, tennis clinics with Washington Kastles head coach and former French Open doubles champion Murphy Jensen, Special Olympics practices and many other events, and the courts are provided every year for Wilde Lake High School team practices and Howard County championship matches.
