KNOXVILLE, TN – Earlier this month, Power Systems employees joined several members of the Knoxville community to help Habitat for Humanity with their 2015 Blitz Build, building six houses in just seven days. The Power Systems team helped on two days of the build. Day one began with the foundation of the house, and ended with putting up the walls and getting the roof trusses put into place. Later in the week the siding was added and Power Systems employees were there to help the house take shape.

For the past 30 years, Knoxville Habitat for Humanity has been providing affordable housing for deserving individuals and families. The homeowners are required to invest 500 hours of “Sweat Equity” before receiving their homes. Sweat Equity hours come in the form of classes to learn how to budget and become a responsible homeowner, as well as helping on builds of their home and other Habitat for Humanity homes. Each home is then purchased by the homeowner and financed with a 25-30 year loan with 0% interest. According to Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, “the homes are ‘a hand up, not a hand out.’”

One Power Systems employee who joined the build, Rebecka Easterday, encourages “anyone who likes to work with their hands and put in some volunteer hours to help with this organization. All the people I have worked with are so grateful for any time you can put in.”
