ALPHARETTA, GA – The leaves are changing, the weather’s getting cooler and comfort food is making its way back into our hearts and bellies, which could only mean one thing… Fall is here! With a change of season, there should be a change in marketing strategy. If you don’t take advantage of the season, then you could potentially lose your members to all of that delicious comfort food. Here are a few things you could do to make sure that you don’t fall behind in your Fall marketing strategy:

1. Create promotions around seasonal holidays

Luckily, Fall is full of days that people love to celebrate. This gives you the opportunity to attract customers through festive and innovative promotions. The three days that your club should focus on the most for promotions are Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Black Friday

Halloween

Halloween is a great way to advertise some scary good deals. There are so many fun promotions you can do during the Halloween season. For instance, you could open your gym to the public and hold a costume competition and whoever wins, wins a free year membership to your club and everyone else who competed can receive a free day to workout, take any group class, or a session with a personal trainer. This way you get the word out about your club, while also giving people an excuse to dress up.

Thanksgiving

During the time around Thanksgiving, it becomes harder and harder to keep your members in the gym; Especially with most people putting exercise on the back burner until the new year. There are a few things you can do to avoid the holiday slump from affecting your club.

Email Blast

When you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em – accept the fact that your members will most likely be indulging in a Thanksgiving feast, but help them out by sending an email blast with 5 healthy recipes they can make for Thanksgiving. By doing this, you’ll show your members that you really do care about them even when they’re not in your club. This will keep your club relevant in your members’ minds, even when they are stuffing their faces.

Social Media

Post on social media a pre-Thanksgiving workout (i.e. Thighs before Pies). Even though your club isn’t open, doesn’t mean that you can’t still help your members and potential new members get a good workout in. Encourage your followers to comment which Thanksgiving dish they are planning to burn calories off for to get them actively engaging with your posts.

Black Friday

Black Friday is the most important marketing holiday of the fall season (no pressure). Go crazy and offer no dues until 2019. You’ll be able to fill your club with new members during the slower season and they’ll see how great your club is and won’t hesitate about paying dues in the new year. You can also run a BOGO deal, buy one personal training session get three free, or any good package deal you can think of. Black Friday is the perfect time to try out extreme promotions because who can say no to a good deal on Black Friday?

2. Create a fun challenge to keep members involved and motivated

During this season that is plagued with caloric-heavy foods, it’s a good idea to have a fun challenge going on to not only keep people coming back to your gym but also get them excited about it. Here are some great month-long challenges:

Bring a friend challenge

For each friend or family member that a member gets to sign up for a membership, they will be entered into a raffle to win a free membership for a year. The more friends and family members they get to sign up, the better their chances.

Weight loss challenge

This is a great one for after Thanksgiving! Or even before. This will lead your members to start their New Year’s resolution before New Year’s. Do a weigh in every week. The person who loses the most weight or most body fat wins a cash prize.

BINGO Challenge

This is another fun challenge that will have people racing to go to your club. Put things on the bingo card like: visited the gym, visited the gym 3 days in a row, went to a group fitness class, spent 30 minutes at the gym, etc. Everyone who gets BINGO receives a free t-shirt.

3. Run a canceled member win-back campaign

Fall is also a great time to focus on winning back members that canceled in the last year or two. It’s the season of giving, so give them an incentive to come back to your club. Whether it’s $0 enrollment, or discounted monthly dues, give them something they can’t refuse!
