Fitness Industry Celebrates Record-Breaking Fundraising Year During IHRSA’s 12th Annual BASH for Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS

LOS ANGELES, CA - Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a neurodegenerative disease affecting far too many people and families. It steals people’s muscles and robs them of every benefit exercise provides. That’s why for more than a decade, the fitness industry has refused to accept that fate, rallying hundreds of companies, countless professionals, staff, studio and club members and local communities to take on this disease and unifying cause. BOCA RATON, FL - Orangetheory Fitness, the scientifically backed and fast-growing fitness franchise, announced it raised more than $2 million in two weeks for Augie's Quest, a foundation dedicated to finding a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) disease. IRVINE, CA - In support of Augie's Quest, LA Fitness hosted its seventh annual in-club event, Action for ALS, across the company's over 690 locations on Saturday, February 25, 2017. Augie's Quest is a nonprofit research initiative dedicated to finding a cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This program is the first of its kind to be created for ALS and includes multiple aspects unique to the field of precision medicine specifically aimed to discover and develop treatments for ALS. This milestone meets two-thirds of the program’s goal for enrollment of 300 participants, which was made possible by the donations received from the 2014 social media phenomenon, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Augie Nieto to Receive Club Industry’s Lifetime Achievement Award

CLUBINDUSTRY.COM - Augie Nieto will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from Club Industry on October 8 at the Club Industry Show in Chicago. Nieto created the Lifecycle and co-founded Life Fitness, a company he ran for 25 years. He is now chairman of Octane Fitness, serves as an operating advisor to private equity firm North Castle Partners, and is on the board of Curves and Jenny Craig. 100th Patient Enrolled in World’s First Precision Medicine Program for ALS

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The ALS Therapy Development Institute announced that it has enrolled the 100th patient in its Precision Medicine Program (PMP). This milestone marks a significant step in the program, which after now includes over 500 people interested in participating and 280 pre-screened for enrollment. Nearly 200 additional people living with ALS (PALS) or healthy volunteers have been scheduled for participation before the end of the year.
