Having higher age and sex-adjusted scores for cardiorespiratory fitness and performing regular exercise of moderate- to vigorous-intensity exercise that fall within ACSM guidelines has been shown to improve immune responses to vaccination, lower chronic low-grade inflammation and improve various immune markers in several disease states including cancer, HIV, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cognitive impairment and obesity. ACSM Foundation Announces New Board Members

If you answered yes, you're among the millions of adults who use a wearable device at least monthly and part of the growing movement of individuals taking control of their health. Thus, it's not shocking that more than 3,000 health and fitness pros surveyed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) say wearable tech will be the top trend in fitness in the coming year. Update on ACSM CEO Search

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The ACSM Executive Search Committee is pleased to share an update on the search for ACSM’s next transformative leader. In April, a CEO Search Committee was formed. Past ACSM President Walt Thompson, Ph.D., FACSM, is serving as Chair of the committee. One of the first responsibilities the committee undertook was identifying an external executive search firm. The committee contacted multiple firms, interviewed the top two candidates and, ultimately, selected Korn Ferry, a nationally known firm with expertise in the health care, life sciences, nonprofit and associations sectors. INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Arlington, Virginia has earned the title of “America’s Fittest City” in the annual American Fitness Index rankings published by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Anthem Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Anthem, Inc. The ACSM/Anthem Fitness Index evaluated America’s 100 largest cities using 33 health behaviors, chronic diseases and community infrastructure indicators. Rounding out the top 10 cities were Seattle, WA; Minneapolis, MN; San Francisco, CA; Madison, WI; Washington, D.C.; St. Paul, MN; Irvine, CA (new to the top 10); Denver, CO; and Portland, OR.
