LOMBARD, IL – It’s commonly thought that seniors aren’t tech-savvy, that many find the internet perplexing and most are unlikely to adopt innovative digital products and services. When it comes to fitness and health, however, Power Wellness has found the opposite to be true.

Power Wellness recently completed a virtual fitness survey with members from 13 managed medical fitness centers. Over 1,000 people responded, the majority of whom (68%) are aged 55+. These “non-tech savvy seniors” had the highest levels of awareness of and interest in tech-enabled fitness products and services:

More than half (52%) are interested in virtual personal coaching:

While seniors are open to using a virtual coach, they still crave a one-to-one experience. Coaching doesn’t have to be face-to-face; instead, it can be digital, as long as it’s customized to the individual.

Just under half (48%) want an app that offers online meal planning / dietitian support:

Good nutrition can mitigate chronic conditions like diabetes and help with weight maintenance as people age. Seniors want easy, fast, and again, personalized direction when it comes to maintaining a healthy diet.

Nearly a third (31%) are currently using a fitness app, and are open to using a mobile app:

Though many of the seniors surveyed confused fitness trackers with a fitness app, we still learned that seniors are open to buying, wearing, and most importantly USING fitness technology.
