NSCA Announces Newly Elected Board Members

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) announces the results of the 2017 Board of Directors elections, as voted on by NSCA members, which includes a new President-Elect. N. Travis Triplett, PhD, CSCS,*D, FNSCA, becomes the first female to be elected President of the NSCA’s Board of Directors and will begin her three-year term in 2018 after serving as President-Elect under current President G. Gregory Haff, PhD, CSCS,*D, FNSCA.

In addition, Margaret T. Jones, PhD, CSCS,*D, FACSM, FNSCA joins the board as a new member and Patrick McHenry, MA, CSCS,*D, RSCC and Michael G. Miller, PhD, EdD, AT, ATC, CSCS, FNATA, FNSCA are reelected.

Dr. Triplett is a Professor and Director of the Strength and Conditioning Concentrations for the Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Exercise Science at Appalachian State University. Her past experience includes being Director of the Strength Centers at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, a research assistantship in Sports Physiology at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, a postdoctoral research fellowship at Southern Cross University in Australia, and other international research at the University of Jyvaskyla in Finland and the University of Valencia in Spain. Dr. Triplett is currently a Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, a past Assistant Editor-in-Chief for the Strength and Conditioning Journal, and was the recipient of the 2000 Terry J. Housh Outstanding Young Investigator award, the 2010 William J. Kraemer Outstanding Sport Scientist Award, and the 2016 JSCR Editorial Excellence Award. She also served on two panels for NASA, including one for developing resistance exercise countermeasures to micro-gravity environments for the International Space Station. She was a founding Fellow of the NSCA, and holds the Sports Performance Coach certification from USA Weightlifting.

Dr. Jones is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology and an affiliate of the Center for Sports Performance at George Mason University. She holds degrees from the University of Tennessee (BA), the University of Houston (MEd), and the University of Georgia (PhD), and completed a NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at Cornell University. Past experience includes 15 years at Springfield College as Director of the Strength and Conditioning Master’s degree program and Director of Strength and Conditioning for Intercollegiate Athletics, where she supervised program design and implementation for 500 athletes from 24 sports. An active member of the NSCA since 1995, Dr. Jones received the NSCA Educator of the Year Award in 2008, and Fellow of the NSCA (FNSCA) in 2012. Currently, she serves as a Senior Associate Editor for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and an Assistant Editor-in-Chief for the Strength and Conditioning Journal. Dr. Jones’ research uses resistance exercise to address questions related to human performance and athlete health. She has authored many publications in peer-reviewed academic journals and has presented consistently at regional, national, and international conferences. She holds NSCA CSCS,*D and USA Weightlifting Level I certifications.
