TORONTO, ON – German health care providers can now rely on Merrithew’s best-in-class equipment for their patients, following the announcement that the Merrithew’s SPX Max Plus, V2 Max Plus and Rehab V2 Max Plus Reformers have acquired CE Marking from the European Union. This certifies the equipment’s status as a Class I Medical Device across most of the EU, allowing it to be sold to hospitals and used by medical professionals to treat patients in a variety of health care settings.

“This is wonderful news — on multiple levels,” says Merrithew President and CEO Lindsay G. Merrithew. “Acquiring the CE Mark means more people will be able to improve their health and quality of life through the equipment we design and manufacture. But it also represents a tremendous opportunity and responsibility for Merrithew. Being able to sell our top line of professional reformers to hospitals and medical professionals in Germany and the rest of the EU is a continuation of our intent to support the growth and development of our business across Europe.”

For more than 30 years, Merrithew has designed and built its Pilates Reformer machines with the highest-quality and finest-manufacturing materials. Thanks to this legacy of excellence combined with a commitment to innovation, the company was able to pass a rigorous 10-step process to acquire the CE Mark from EU regulators.

This confirms that Merrithew’s SPX Max Plus, V2 Max Plus and Rehab V2 Max Plus Reformers meet the requirements of the new European Medical Devices Regulation MDR 2017/745. In addition to acting as proof of the equipment’s quality, reliability and safety, the certification also means the company can better serve doctors, sports medicine professionals, physiotherapists, physical therapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and their patients in Germany and across Europe with these specific pieces of equipment.

Acquiring CE Medical certification represents the latest in Merrithew’s ongoing investment in the European market. In addition to growing a community of education partners and STOTT PILATES® Certified Instructors across the continent, Merrithew recently opened its European distribution center to offer direct access to its equipment. For Germany, specifically, the company has created a German-language catalog and improved customer service through a dedicated German sales team. As a result of these initiatives, German consumers can expect faster shipping on new equipment and spare parts, better pricing with no importation tax and an un-matched level of attention to their needs.

“We’ve already witnessed how German fitness enthusiasts and professionals share our passion for craftsmanship, innovation and quality,” says Lindsay Merrithew. “Now, we look forward to using the same attributes to support the health care community and their patients in Germany for years to come.”
