DALLAS, TX – ClubIntel, a global leader in conducting market research related to the health and fitness club industry, has announced that it will release its landmark follow-up study of the U.S. health and fitness facility member journey during the COVID-19 crisis. The study, called a recurring survey, reached out to the initial group of 2,000 U.S. health and fitness facility members who participated in ClubIntel’s initial study entitled: What Members Say Matters. This follow-up study, or recurring study, explored where U.S. health and fitness facility members stood nearly 6 months after the initial study. A few insights from this recurring study of 2,000 U.S. members include:

  • 32% of member report their facilities remained closed as of November 30, 2020, 18% of which were permanently closed.
  • 34% of the members had returned to a health/fitness facility, while 41% continued to work out on their own.
  • 20% of members had not returned and were no longer working out.
  • 18% of members who returned were aware of either staff and/or members testing positive for Covid-19.

The final report will be available on ClubIntel’s website, www.club-intel.com, starting Thursday, December 17, 2020. The report is available at no cost in the hope it provides a compass for what fitness operators around the globe need to consider as the industry and its members continue to deal with the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis.
