BOSTON, MA – At the recently completed IHRSA 2015, the International Health Racquet & Sportsclub Association’s 34th Annual International Convention & Trade Show, thousands of fitness industry leaders celebrated the successes of a thriving industry, showcased the newest and most innovative equipment, programs, and technology, and reinforced the industry’s commitment to increase physical activity levels across the globe. The high-energy event, gathering thousands of health club operators, suppliers, and fitness industry professionals together from over 80 countries, was held in Los Angeles, California, March 11-14, 2015.

“I am sincerely grateful to each and every attendee, exhibitor, sponsor, and presenter for their dedication to this wonderful industry of ours, and to their commitment to help people across the world live happier, healthier more active lives,” said Joe Moore, IHRSA president and CEO.

IHRSA 2015 by the Numbers

  • Attending IHRSA 2015 were over 13,000 industry professionals, including 8,000 convention and trade show attendees;
  • 84 countries – a new record – were represented by this year’s 8,000 convention and trade show attendees;
  • The exhibit hall, with 388 exhibiting companies, occupying 178,000 square feet of exhibit space, buzzed with excitement during the two-day trade show and early morning workouts.

Education Highlights

Each day of the four-day event was highlighted by an inspiring keynote presentation. Arianna Huffington kicked off Wednesday evening with a message of personal health and happiness on Redefining Success: The Third Metric that can Benefit Your Bottom Line, sponsored by SPRI.

Thursday was highlighted with an awe-inspiring visual and audio presentation from Futurist Magnus Lindkvist on Thinking About the Future in an Uncertain World, sponsored by Technogym. And on Friday, attendees learned from Adam Bryant’s years of interviewing CEOs for the New York Times CEO Corner Column about Lessons from Leading CEOs on How to Create a Culture of Innovation, sponsored by Matrix Fitness.

And last, but certainly not least, closing keynoter Kelly McGonigal’s presentation on The Willpower Instinct, sponsored by MYZONE provided convention attendees with plenty of science backed willpower motivation to take back to their clubs.

The convention also included a well-received inaugural Health Promotion & Wellness Track, a special presentation from Social Marketing Evangelist David Meerman Scott on The New Rules of Sales & Service during the Global Leadership Summit sponsored by ABC Financial, and a Women’s Leadership Summit with a presentation on The Art of Reinvention by Cecily Sommers, sponsored by American Council on Exercise.

In addition to the four keynotes and the leadership summits, convention-goers had over 160 educational, exercise, and networking sessions to choose to attend, many simultaneously translated into Spanish, Russian, Chinese and Japanese throughout the four-day event.

Augie’s Quest Ten-Year Reunion Bash

For the 10th consecutive year, IHRSA proudly hosted The BASH for Augie’s Quest, an aggressive cure-driven ALS research initiative established by fitness industry pioneer Augie Nieto, who has been fighting ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease) since 2005. The 2015 BASH exceeded expectations by raising over $1.8 million thanks to multiple event sponsors and moving performances from John Andrasik of Five for Fighting and headliner Gavin DeGraw. Since 2007, Augie’s Quest has raised over $44 million in support of finding effective ALS treatments. Read more about the Bash and Augie’s Quest here.
