IHRSA Announces New Chairperson, Welcomes New Members and Seeks Applicants to Board of Directors

BOSTON, MA – The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) is pleased to announce that effective July 1, 2015, Molly Kemmer, Regional Director for EXOS/MediFit Corporate Services, is the Chairperson of the IHRSA Board of Directors for the 2015/2016 term.

“This position is a tremendous honor and responsibility, encompassing my passion for service and relationships. The collaborative strategic work of the Board and IHRSA staff today, will bolster the future impact and relevance of our industry, thereby impacting global health.”

The IHRSA Board also proudly welcomes four newly elected members who will serve a 4-year term from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2019.

Larry Conner, Stone Creek Club and Spa, Covington, LA

Larry, a 26-year industry veteran, is the President/General Manager of the Stone Creek Club and Spa in Covington, Louisiana. He joined Stone Creek in 2008 and was involved in the design, build out, hiring and management of this resort style club. Larry and Stone Creek have been involved in a wide variety of community outreach events and projects.

Missy Moss, Nike Athletic Centers, Beaverton, OR

As General Manager of the Nike Athletic Centers at Nike, Inc.’s World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, Missy oversees three facilities, is involved in the development of additional locations, and has been involved with Nike’s “Access to Sport” and “Designed to Move” initiatives. A competitive swimmer since childhood, her love of sport brought her from Nike’s travel department to a front desk position at the newly built fitness center 13 years ago to her current position.

Raymond O’Connor, Wisconsin Athletic Clubs, West Allis, WI

Ray, a 30-year industry veteran and IHRSA member, is the owner of 7 clubs and manages 6 corporate centers including Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance, Johnson Controls and Kohl’s Department Stores. Ray is a longtime member of IHRSA’s Industry Leadership Council (ILC) and was recognized with IHRSA’s President’s Award in 1999. He has also served on the Board of the Devine Savior Holy Angels High School Board since 2012.

Jim Worthington, Newtown Athletic Club, Newtown, PA

Jim is the owner of 3 clubs including the Newtown Athletic Club, Healthquest of Hunterdon and Horsham Athletic Club. He has been involved in the industry for 36 years growing Newtown from a 15,000 square foot racquet club on 3 acres to a 250,000 square foot health, wellness and recreation complex on 22 acres. A long-time supporter of IHRSA’s Industry Leadership Council (ILC), and IHRSA educational events, Jim is a strong believer in giving back to the community he serves and has strong ties with local charities, non-profits, government and fellow clubs.

The newly elected board members join the distinguished company of the current IHRSA Board of Directors:

Members who completed their term on June 30 include Jasmin Kirstein of My Sportlady, Christian Pierar, of De Fitness Organisatie (DFO) and Brent Darden of Brent Darden Consulting who served a 5-year term as Chairperson and Ex-Officio.

The IHRSA Board of Directors is looking for new members. Working with their peers and colleagues, IHRSA’s Board of Directors helps guide the industry with strategic direction and insight. Each year, two to four passionate IHRSA members (club operators) are elected to the Board to replace outgoing members. The deadline to apply for the 2016-2020 term is July 31, 2015.
