HAMPTON, N.H. – As part of its ongoing commitment to giving back to the community, Planet Fitness hosted its second annual ‘Flexing for Good’ volunteer week, which involved more than 100 employees at the company’s corporate office headquartered in Hampton, N.H. Over the course of four days, employees logged more than 430 hours volunteering with neighboring nonprofit organizations such as the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester, NH; the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence, MA; the New England SCPA in Stratham, NH; and Lydia’s House of Hope in Somersworth, NH.

The inaugural ‘Flexing for Good’ volunteer week took place in 2018 and it was immediately determined that it would become an annual company tradition. Since then, employees have logged nearly 1,000 volunteer hours.

“As a company whose mission is to improve people’s lives, making a positive impact in our community is part of our brand DNA,” said Chris Rondeau, Chief Executive Officer, Planet Fitness. “The Flexing for Good initiative is a win-win for both our employees and our communities. The program has been extremely popular and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”

As part of this year’s Flexing for Good volunteer week:

  • Twenty employees volunteered with the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester at Camp Foster in Bedford, logging a total of 80 hours. Team members cleared brush from the wood surrounding the camp, painted the pool pump house and cleared out a storage trailer.
  • Twenty-five volunteers traveled to the Boys & Girl Club of Lawrence, Mass., to help clean up the club in preparation for summer activities. Volunteers logged a total of 100 hours by washing windows, wiping down surfaces, mopping the floors, and organizing craft supplies.
  • More than 35 employees put their love of animals to work and volunteered with the New England SPCA in Stratham, logging nearly 150 hours. Team members cleared dog-walking trails and weeded areas along fences. A few of the volunteers have even adopted animals that they met while volunteering.
  • More than 25 volunteers traveled to Somersworth to work with Lydia’s House of Hope, a transitional housing program for women and their families, as a continuation of Planet Fitness’s support of the organization. Recently, Planet Fitness constructed a new, onsite fitness center for Lydia’s House of Hope residents. Volunteers helped the staff with gardening, cleaning, and painting, logging a total of more than 100 hours.

Recognizing that volunteerism is extremely important, Planet Fitness provides employees two paid days off a year to volunteer. Planet Fitness plans to organize another ‘Flexing for Good’ week in 2020.

In addition to its local volunteer efforts, Planet Fitness has a national charitable initiative, called the Judgement Free Generation which aims to spread kindness and end bullying. Its mission is to empower a generation to grow up contributing to a more judgement free planet– a place where everyone feels accepted and like they belong.
