BOCA RATON, FL – A unique trifecta of science, coaching and technology has positioned Orangetheory Fitness as a global leader in innovative heart rate-based interval training. Orangetheory now announces new technology advancements, including a new wearable heart-rate monitor and proprietary equipment enhancements. Through this game-changing technology, Orangetheory advances its mission by giving members even better tools to capture performance data, measure their overall workout results and set new goals.

According to Orangetheory Fitness’ Chief Technology Officer Joseph Mazzarella, the brand developed this technology in house to uniquely position Orangetheory as the innovator in the fitness space. “We’ve been an industry leader in heart-rate based training for quite some time, and through continued innovation around our proprietary technology, we are providing even more personalized data that members won’t find anywhere else.”

The innovations include:

  • OTbeat Burn literally sits at the heart of the Orangetheory Fitness experience. The company’s new heart-rate monitor, OTbeat Burn, will initiate name recognition when a member approaches a treadmill. Once the member confirms their name on the treadmill screen, their member profile will appear, which not only contains data from past workouts, but also aggregates data within the same workout. This is the first wearable for the brand that tracks activity outside of the studio, including steps, distance and calories, by connecting to the mobile app, giving members a more comprehensive view of their fitness performance.
  • OTconnect, the Orangetheory proprietary platform creates an industry first ecosystem of data and feedback, a one-of-a-kind fitness dashboard that allows members to capture data like never before. During the workout, OTconnect will track heart rate, total calories, splat points, average/maximum incline, maximum miles per hour and total moving time – aggregating data to provide total distance achieved, even if the member goes on and off the treadmill. This technology enables members to see their real-time performance on the screen directly in front of them, ensuring they never lose sight of their progress.
  • After class, members can continue to monitor afterburn improvements through emailed results or the updated OTbeat mobile app, which can be used to set personal workout goals, join challenges and view current, weekly and monthly performance summaries.

The updated OTconnect platform will first roll out to the treadmills, but the same technology will soon be incorporated into the water rowers and weight floor for a fully connected workout experience.

“From the beginning, we have been committed to bringing our members more life and fostering a community around our unique science-backed, technology-tracked, coach-inspired workouts,” said Dave Long, Orangetheory Fitness co-founder and CEO. “With our continued innovation in the technology space, we’re delivering a more personalized workout experience and more data that will help our members achieve their fitness goals inside and out of the studio.”

With more than 1,000 studios throughout the United States and across 18 countries, Orangetheory Fitness is a leader in the boutique training space. Each Orangetheory class is designed to produce results from the inside out – giving people a longer, more vibrant life. The full body workout utilizes treadmills, rowers, weights and more to help members elevate their heart rate to the “Orange Zone” or 84-91 percent of their estimated maximum heart rate.
