LONDON, ON – Canada’s largest fitness club chain continues to grow north of Toronto. GoodLife Fitness announced that they have entered into an agreement with the Fitness Institute, another pioneer in the fitness industry in Canada, to purchase the fitness club located at 2235 Sheppard Avenue East in North York.

The Fitness Institute was founded in 1963 by the famous Canadian coach, Lloyd Percival and quickly won recognition for its innovative approach to health, wellness and high performance training. Today the Fitness Institute is overseen by President and Owner, Steve Roest who is an exceptional leader in the fitness community nationally.

GoodLife Fitness, a proud Canadian company, founded in London, Ontario over 36 years ago, will build on the remarkable 50+ year history of this fitness innovator. GoodLife hopes to maintain many of the core services, programs and amenities that are currently offered. The club will become a part of GoodLife Fitness on October 16, 2015 and will remain open and active during the transition.

“We are thrilled to have the Fitness Institute, one of the oldest quality fitness club brands in Canada, join the GoodLife Fitness Family,” says David ‘Patch’ Patchell-Evans, GoodLife Fitness Founder & CEO. “They have created an exceptional environment for members to achieve their health and fitness goals which is an excellent reflection of the welcoming and inclusive environment we provide at GoodLife. We have a shared goal of changing members’ lives, so we are very excited to welcome the Fitness Institute members to the GoodLife Family.”

Patch continues, “I also have a unique personal connection to the Fitness Institute as I had the opportunity to train there when I started my rowing career at university in the late 1970s. I am delighted that my relationship with the Fitness Institute has come full circle. We hope to build on the expertise and legacy of the Fitness Institute by focusing on providing a high performance training ground suitable for Olympians and other elite athletes. In conjunction with what we offer currently at GoodLife, there will be something for everyone from beginners to elite athletes.”

“The Fitness Institute has a long rich history as a leader in the fitness industry and to have GoodLife Fitness carry on this tradition is comforting,” says Steve Roest. “They have a strong team which will enable them to take the club to the next level.”

“It is our hope that many of the current employees will become a part of the GoodLife Team,” says Jason Sheridan, GoodLife Fitness Vice President of Operations who will be responsible for this new addition to the fitness club chain. “There are so many different opportunities for employment with GoodLife and we are always looking for exceptional fitness professionals to support and care for our members.”
