Gold’s Gym Paramus Owner Mike Epstein Named A North Jersey Hometown Hero

PARAMUS, N.J. – Mike Epstein, franchise co-owner of Gold’s Gym Paramus, was recognized last month by U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer as one of 42 North Jersey “Hometown Heroes.” Epstein was nominated for the honor by Mayor Richard LaBarbiera who is an advocate for the impact that Epstein has made in the community.
“In addition to being an active and stellar member of our business community, Mike is always one of the first people to reach out to offer his help whenever something is needed in town,” said Mayor LaBarbiera. “During Hurricane Sandy, he offered to open the doors of Gold’s Gym to anyone in need of a shower, phone charging or a computer.”
Congressman Gottheimer hosted the third Hometown Hero Awards on Friday, December 14, at Ramapo College, where Epstein was recognized not only for the incredible giving spirit he exemplified through his efforts during Hurricane Sandy, but also for his efforts made to improve the lives of his fellow Paramus citizens on a daily basis.
“Mike Epstein is an excellent example of a steward of the Gold’s Gym Brand, as he continues to uphold the Gold’s Gym mission and values inside and outside of the four walls of his Paramus location,” said Brandon Bean, CEO of Gold’s Gym. “His passion for supporting his community is honorable.”
Epstein and his business partner, Art Carril, recently celebrated the 26th anniversary of their Gold’s Gym Paramus location, and Epstein also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Paramus Regional Chamber of Commerce. As a community leader, Epstein uses his fitness passion to support his community by hosting its annual “Paramus Weight Loss Challenge,” which is a free program available to all Paramus residents looking to pursue a healthier lifestyle through fitness.
This year’s Paramus Weight Loss Challenge kicks off on March 7, and all participants of the challenge will work together toward a cumulative goal for the entire town as opposed to each individual’s weight loss, making the challenge a truly community-oriented event.
“When we opened Gold’s Gym Paramus more than 26 years ago, our mission was simply to help people improve their lives through health and fitness and to give back to our community,” said Epstein. “I am proud to say that we have always stayed true to this mission, and Art and I are truly humbled by the Hometown Hero Award. It means we are making a difference in our community and that is what it’s all about.”
