acac Fitness and Wellness’ 30 Days Fundraiser Brings $94,940 to Area Non-profits

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – At acac, community members worked out and gave back during the month of March. They purchased a 30-day membership for $30, and 100% of the membership fee was donated to non-profits in local acac club communities. In total, they raised $94,940 for area non-profits.

$25,380 for Special Olympics by acac Midlothian and acac Short Pump in Virginia

acac Midlothian and acac Short Pump selected Special Olympics of Virginia as their charity for March’s 30 days for $30 fundraiser. Special Olympics is dedicated to helping children and adults with intellectual disabilities discover the joy of participating in organized athletics. They make the world a better, healthier and more joyful place – one athlete, one volunteer, one family member at a time.

acac was excited to host an education team from Special Olympics Virginia at the After School program in acac Midlothian. They gave the presentation “The R-Word: Spreading the Word to End the Word.” In the Short Pump club, representatives set up a table in the lobby and talked to club members about the organization and volunteer opportunities. Team members attended three Special Olympics sporting events.

$50,000 for UVa Cancer Center by acac clubs in Charlottesville, Virginia

The UVa Cancer Center’s mission is to provide services, advocacy and support that reduces the burden of cancer for patients today and eliminate the threat of cancer for tomorrow’s patients through research and education. The Albemarle Square, Downtown and Crozet acac clubs were proud to raise funds for this important community resource. Basketball celebrity Ralph Sampson and former UVa women’s basketball coach Debbie Ryan helped raise awareness for our efforts. Both came to the clubs for photo opportunities and autograph signing with members and guests and lent their strong support to the cause.

$13,410 for Habitat for Humanity of Chester County by acac West Chester and acac Eagleview in Pennsylvania

Since 1989, Habitat for Humanity of Chester County (HfHCC) has built or renovated nearly 140 homes in Chester County for area families in need of decent, affordable housing. acac was thrilled to donate $13,410 to this deserving charity, along with several boxes of cleaning supplies and household items for new homeowners. A group of acac team members also spent an afternoon building displays at the HfHCC ReStore, which sells quality used home furnishings and surplus building materials at a fraction of their regular cost. All proceeds from the store help fund the construction of more Habitat houses in our community. acac is looking forward to more volunteer opportunities with Habitat as they work to complete two new houses in West Chester this year.

$6,150 for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore by acac Timonium and acac Hunt Valley in Maryland

acac joined forces with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Baltimore for March’s 30 days for $30 fundraising campaign. acac is thankful for the opportunity to have served one of the nation’s most recognized and respected philanthropic organizations, whose mission to create a home away from home for sick children and their families is one acac stands firmly behind. With Baltimore being a hub of medical excellence, people all over the world migrate to the area seeking care. acac was thrilled to have contributed over $6,150 to families who are not only receiving great care from the medical community, but excellent home care from the compassionate volunteers at the RMH.

acac thanks all who participated in the 30 days fundraiser. And a special thanks to all the 30 days beneficiaries for their service to our club communities and for allowing acac to take part in the amazing work you do.
