Genesis Health Clubs Announces Purchase Of Jayhawk Tennis Center

LAWRENCE, KS – Genesis Health Clubs has officially announced the acquisition of the Jayhawk Tennis Center. Their plans are to expand the center in front of the building and add a mezzanine level to transform the location into a large scale health, fitness and tennis club, similar to some of their other facilities.
An expansion is planned to begin soon and hopes to be completed in early 2016. The health club addition will include cardio and weight areas, three group fitness studios for yoga, cycling and general group classes, spacious upscale locker rooms and a ‘Grand Slam’ tennis viewing area on the mezzanine level.
“I’m very excited to bring Genesis tennis to the Lawrence community and also to be able to serve Lawrence on both sides of town with high caliber facilities,” Rodney Steven II, owner of Genesis Health clubs, commented, “Since we typically own our facilities, the current leased South location on Iowa Street has been a temporary solution until we found an opportunity that we could invest in, and also allow us to have tennis facilities.”
Steven also stated that upon the completion of the project he will close the Iowa Street facility and those memberships will transfer to the new club. Most Genesis members will have access to clubs on both sides of town.
Construction on the facility will begin this month and could be completed as early as March, 2016. The tennis center currently offers five indoor courts and six outdoor courts. One of the indoor courts will be converted into the health club space when the expansion begins in a few weeks. Currently the center is open and operating under the same conditions as before, and Genesis members will be able to use the facility soon.
