PHIT Act Passes the House, Now Moves to Senate

WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a major step to help overcome the “Inactivity Pandemic” and improve the health of Americans, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act by a bipartisan vote of 277-142. The PHIT Act now moves to the Senate for consideration. The action in the House comes less than two weeks after being passed by the House Ways and Means Committee by a vote of 28-6. BOSTON, MA and MADISON, WI - IHRSA and Athletic Business announce an agreement that will bring the IHRSA Women’s Leadership Summit to New Orleans, LA, during AB Show 2018. NAC Owner and IHRSA Chair-elect, Jim Worthington, Appointed to Presidents’ Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition

NEWTOWN, PA - On May 4, 2018, the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition (PCSFN) announced that it appointed 40-year industry veteran, newly-elected Chairman of the IHRSA Board of Directors, Owner of the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC) and physical activity champion, Jim Worthington, to serve. Mr. Worthington will be serving with other newly appointed individuals including: Herschel Walker, Mariano Rivera, Bill Belichick, Dr. Oz, Lou Ferrigno and Misty-May Traenor. The President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition was formed in 1956, and since then, has worked to create and promote programs that allow Americans to adopt healthy lifestyles that stress the importance of regular physical activity and good nutrition. NEWTOWN, PA - Jim Worthington, owner of the Newtown Athletic Club (NAC) was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of the IHRSA (International Health Racquet and Sportsclub Association) on Friday, March 24, 2018 in San Diego, CA. The election took place at the 2018 IHRSA International Conference where education, networking and the largest fitness equipment trade show in the world are provided for 10,000 clubs representing 90 countries. Health Savings Accounts Bill Includes PHIT – Help Pass It!

BOSTON, MA - Congressman Mike Kelly (R-PA) has introduced the Bipartisan HSA Improvement Act (H.R. 5138). This Health Savings Accounts (HSA) reform bill bundles a number of HSA bills, including and most importantly to the health and fitness club industry, the PHIT Act! This HSA reform bill is now the best vehicle for getting PHIT included in the omnibus spending bill. Put simply, PHIT will pass if the omnibus spending bill includes the HSA bill. Read More...

Bill Dussor, Longtime IHRSA Staff Member, Passes Away

BOSTON, MA - Sadly, we at IHRSA lost one of our own on Saturday. Bill Dussor, Director of Meetings & Trade Shows emeritus, passed away on January 13 after a long battle with colon cancer. While Bill was respected and well-liked by the many industry leaders that have served on the IHRSA Board of Directors during his tenure at IHRSA over the past 26 years, the reality is that the vast majority of IHRSA members probably never had met Bill; but if you ever attended an IHRSA event, then you’ve experienced the fruits of his labor. Bill worked diligently and tirelessly behind the scenes, logging an insane amount of late-night and pre-dawn work hours ensuring that each event went off without a hitch. Read More...
