Thousands of Local Gyms Urge Congress to Include Direct Support for Fitness Industry in Any Post-Election Relief Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Community Gyms Coalition (CGC), a group representing more than 15,000 community gyms in the U.S., has urged Congress to include direct support for the fitness industry in any post-election relief legislation, in order to help gyms survive the financial impact of mandatory closures and operating restrictions from the COVD-19 pandemic. Medical Fitness Association Names Kevin McHugh to Board of Directors

PINEHURST, NC - The Medical Fitness Association (MFA) has announced that Kevin McHugh, COO of The Atlantic Club in New Jersey, a MFA Certified Facility, has been appointed to the MFA Board of Directors. Mr. McHugh will serve a three-year term beginning in January 2021.

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) recently announced the discovery of a new drug target, Type I PRMTs, for ALS caused by the C9orf72 mutation. We were excited to share those recent findings with the broader ALS research community and with you. We remain in the early days with this discovery, but we are optimistic as we take steps to further advance our findings. Because we can’t complete all of these steps alone, we are developing partnerships to make progress against each of these objectives. CFA Asks Court to Restore Reasonable & Equitable Statewide Access to Fitness

SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Fitness Alliance (CFA) announced it has filed legal action in Los Angeles County Superior Court seeking to restore reasonable access to indoor fitness. Lyle Ray Irwin, The Original STEP Founder, and Patent Holder, Passes Away

Lyle Ray Irwin, The Original STEP Founder and Patent Holder, and partner with Rich Boggs in CourtSouth and then in a partnership with Rich, Lou Off and Gerry Alles in Sportslife in Atlanta, has passed away after a 6 + month battle with lung cancer. Six years ago, Ray won a very tough battle with throat cancer. Then, after surviving that cancer for 6+ years, he was hit with a second battle with cancer in January, 2020. Sadly, this time it was lung cancer, which proved to be more than he could defeat, and Lyle Ray Irwin died the night of July 19th/20th. Read More...
How ALS TDI is Moving Forward with Phase 1 Reopening of Lab

CAMBRIDGE, MA - ALS TDI’s Chief Scientific Officer Fernando Vieira, M.D., talks about how ALS TDI is allowing more scientists to enter the lab in accordance with Massachusetts Phase 1 reopening guidelines. ALS TDI thank you for support over the last few months, which has allowed us to maintain the pace of promising ALS research amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This first week of June, in accordance with the Massachusetts phased reopening guidelines, ALS TDI began allowing more of our scientists and researchers to return to the Cambridge-based lab.
