You could live a long, long time and never have the good fortune of getting to know a human being as wonderful and as talented as the late, great Brother Curt Beusman! Curt Beusman passed away at age 84 on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Jane, Curt's wife of 58 years, and Blair, their daughter, who passed from breast cancer, predeceased Curt. Curt and Jane also had two sons, Robert, a filmmaker, and Rick, who runs the family club businesses in Mt. Kisco, New York and Stamford, Connecticut. Read More...
Ice Bucket Challenge Advances Antibody Toward Clinical Trial for ALS

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The ALS Therapy Development Institute announced it is directing, via its wholly owned subsidiary, Anelixis Therapeutics, $1.5 million toward the development of a potential treatment for ALS that targets the innate immune system. The funding comes from the $4 million the ALS Therapy Development Institute received from the 2014 social media phenomenon known as the "ALS Ice Bucket Challenge." The entire sum of $4 million raised directly by the Institute through last year’s Ice Bucket Challenge will be spent on ALS research. Read More...

Augie Nieto to Receive Club Industry’s Lifetime Achievement Award

CLUBINDUSTRY.COM - Augie Nieto will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from Club Industry on October 8 at the Club Industry Show in Chicago. Nieto created the Lifecycle and co-founded Life Fitness, a company he ran for 25 years. He is now chairman of Octane Fitness, serves as an operating advisor to private equity firm North Castle Partners, and is on the board of Curves and Jenny Craig. Club Industry will honor him for his work in the fitness industry but also for his work outside of it, which has brought together the fitness industry. Read More...

100th Patient Enrolled in World’s First Precision Medicine Program for ALS

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The ALS Therapy Development Institute announced that it has enrolled the 100th patient in its Precision Medicine Program (PMP). This milestone marks a significant step in the program, which after now includes over 500 people interested in participating and 280 pre-screened for enrollment. Nearly 200 additional people living with ALS (PALS) or healthy volunteers have been scheduled for participation before the end of the year. This program is the first of its kind to be created for ALS and includes multiple aspects unique to the field of precision medicine specifically aimed to discover and develop treatments for ALS.
