MANASQUAN, N.J. – The Atlantic Club and Hackensack Meridian Health are proud to announce a partnership to deliver free mental health workshops to the community.

The series of mental health workshops will cover topics such as: letting go of stress, resilience in tough times, mindfulness and meditation, living intentionally and much more. The workshops will be led by health care professionals from Hackensack Meridian, will be a mix of virtual and in-person events and are free of charge to the community. In addition, fitness and wellness experts from the Atlantic Club will provide an experiential portion during each workshop including movement, stretching exercises and demonstrations of mindfulness tools that can be incorporated into everyday life.

The series has been named the Dr. Joe Miller Memorial Mental Wellness Workshop Series, to honor the tireless work of the late Joe Miller, Ph.D., to address the mental health crisis in our communities. “Dr. Miller was always looking for ways to collaborate with our community partners to enhance the lives of others,” said Grace Hickey, PsyD, regional director, behavioral health services, Hackensack Meridian Health. “I know he would be proud, and likely humbled, to have this wellness series named in his memory. Joe would probably say, ‘Don’t worry about including me…just do it because it’s a great thing to do for the community!’”

“The Atlantic Club is excited to partner with Hackensack Meridian on the very important and timely issue of mental health,” said Kevin McHugh, chief operating officer, the Atlantic Club. “The past two years of the pandemic have been extremely difficult on everyone and mental health awareness and help is needed now more than ever.”

The first free workshop, Letting Go of Stress: How to Adapt, Cope and Thrive, will be held on Wednesday evening, March 23, 2022, at 7 p.m. EDT. It will be a virtual presentation led by Kelly Briggs, DHP, MBA, RN, NE-BC, and Sandy Barndt, certified personal trainer and group exercise specialist, will address the different types of stress, coping skills, relaxation techniques and provide strategies to improve overall health and well-being.
