WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Health & Fitness Association (HFA) announces a planned leadership transition that reflects both continuity and forward momentum for the organization. Liz Clark, who served as president and CEO since July 2021, has stepped down from her role and will serve in an advocacy advisory capacity through July. During her tenure, Clark led the association through a pivotal period, strengthening its voice with policymakers, expanding its relevance to members, and reinforcing its role as a unifying force for the global health and fitness industry.

“I’m proud of the progress we’ve made and the stronger platform we’ve built to advocate on behalf of our members,” said Clark. “As a lifelong fitness enthusiast, it has been an honor to build this extraordinary team and to work together to set the fitness industry up for its next successful chapter.”

Building on this strong foundation, Greta Wagner has been appointed interim president and CEO. Wagner brings more than 40 years of industry and leadership experience, including three decades as a senior executive at Chelsea Piers and the past 10 years leading and expanding its Connecticut operations. Her deep expertise and steady leadership position HFA to continue advancing its mission without interruption.

HFA enters this next chapter from a position of strength, with clear priorities and sustained momentum.

“HFA is moving forward with stability, focus, and purpose,” Wagner said. “As a trade association dedicated to advancing our members’ businesses, we continue to serve as a leading voice for the health and fitness industry. For more than 40 years, HFA has been a cornerstone of this sector, and both the association, and our members are well-positioned for the future.”

She added: “Our priorities remain consistent: advancing advocacy, strengthening the role of preventive health, and delivering value through policy, research, and education. We are building on a strong foundation while evolving to meet the needs of our members and partners. The work continues, and we are committed to delivering with clarity, consistency, and impact.”

The HFA Board of Directors emphasized that HFA is focused on extending its momentum, sharpening its strategic impact, and continuing to deliver meaningful value to its members.
