A Message From Augie and Lynne Nieto:<\/strong> In many ways, Lynne and I have been lucky in this disease. It\u2019s why we started Augie\u2019s Quest to Cure ALS nearly 13 years ago, making a conscious decision to go after ALS with everything we\u2019ve got \u2013 and encouraging all of you to join us on this crazy, but life-changing ride!<\/p>\n

We\u2019re so thankful to each one of you for joining our quest. It\u2019s been worth the journey, hasn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

Because of you, today, we\u2019re in the nonprofit business of funding innovative research, building effective treatments and fast-tracking drugs through the ALS Therapy Development Institute \u2013 all to ultimately find a cure for ALS. Since our diagnosis, you — our family, dear friends and the entire fitness community — have rallied right there with us to fund that crucial research and innovative science. You\u2019ve given in droves, of your time, talent and resources. This was our most successful fundraising year for Augie’s Quest bringing our total to more than $60 million.<\/p>\n

In fact, our collective work is resulting in a promising new treatment that may slow the progression of ALS. And, we will have this first drug, AT-1501, in clinical trials in early 2018. It\u2019s not a cure, but in our testing, it is showing it may slow down the progression of the disease. Which means, if we can help people live longer with the disease, we\u2019re better able to pursue a cure. This is a real tipping point in the ALS space.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s truly an exciting time, one we could hardly imagine only a decade ago. And for that, we are truly thankful. Right now, the only thing holding us back, are the urgent funds to bring it to market \u2013 and begin to change people\u2019s lives for the better!<\/p>\n

Because ALS isn\u2019t an incurable disease; it\u2019s only underfunded. This is a disease we can tackle, this is a problem we can solve for so many living with ALS today.<\/p>\n

Within a year\u2019s time, we could very likely be in a very different place. Can you imagine that? A world where ALS doesn\u2019t stand a fighting chance? It\u2019s what keeps us going.<\/p>\n
