LEXINGTON, KY<\/strong> \u2013 Big Ass Fans announced it has raised $25,000 for a new, state-of-the-art cancer treatment suite at University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center. The company last month began donating 5% of all sales in the state of Kentucky until $25,000 was reached. The promotion was conducted in partnership with Dr. Jonathan Feddock, a radiation oncologist at University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center.<\/p>\n Feddock had already raised about $175,000 of the $200,000 down-payment needed for the project through his fundraising organization, Ironcology. Feddock, who garners pledges by running in Ironman\u00ae-style triathlons, met Big Ass Fans Founder Carey Smith at a race event the company sponsored, and Smith offered to raise the remaining $25,000.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I heard Dr. Feddock\u2019s story, I told him to take a breather \u2013 Big Ass Fans will take it from here,\u201d Smith said. \u201cThis clinic will help Dr. Feddock and the Markey Cancer Center treat cancer patients from all over the region.\u201d<\/p>\n The new radiation implant suite will provide comprehensive care for cancer patients using brachytherapy, an advanced form of treatment that delivers radioactive implants directly into cancerous tissue. UK HealthCare\u2019s Markey Cancer Center currently offers brachytherapy services, but the equipment is in need of updates and the treatment process involves transporting patients between three buildings, limiting scheduling and efficiency.<\/p>\n \u201cBig Ass Fans has been great,\u201d Feddock said. \u201cTheir efforts have allowed me to switch my fundraising from the brachytherapy suite to other important Markey projects.\u201d<\/p>\n All Kentucky sales of Big Ass Fans and Big Ass Light products, including the company\u2019s Haiku residential ceiling fan and the Garage Light LED fixture, qualified for the donation program.
