Norm Cates is a 35-year veteran of the Health, Racquet, and Sports Club industry. He began his career as an owner/operator of a chain of clubs in the Atlanta-area and then expanded throughout the Southeastern United States. He and three partners started out by creating mainly racquetball-oriented clubs, and then over the years, reconfigured them into multisport facilities.
After serving as the last President of the National Court Clubs Association (NCCA) --the racquetball owners' trade association-- he was a co-founder of IHRSA (then IRSA) in 1981. Afterwards, he was elected to serve as IHRSA's 1st President. In 2001, IHRSA honored Mr. Cates with the first annual Dale Dibble Distinguished Service Award.
He established Club Insider in 1993 and has been its Publisher ever since. Club Insider was created to provide a unique perspective of the club industry and to be a differentiated publication from other existing trade journals.
